The Roller Coaster
Well, it’s been a crazy two weeks as you know by now. Scott and I decided from the beginning of this cancer journey to be open and authentic with everyone. If you know us, that’s kind of who we are…open books. Obviously, we don’t share every single detail of our life on social media because there are some things we just feel we need to keep close to home. But, we do believe prayer works and we want people praying with us and for us.
With that said, we feel like we are on a rollercoaster that we wish we’d never gotten on. I don’t know if you’ve been there before, but I definitely have. I get motion sickness and as much as I love roller coasters, many times rides like that don’t agree with me. On a roller coaster, one moment you’re climbing and everything is calm and the next thing you know you’re going down a huge hill and hitting twists, turns and loopty loops (as my kids used to call them). That’s how we’ve felt since October 7th. As much as we would love to get off this wild ride and be on stable ground, we realize we can’t. We have to go through the rough parts first.
If you haven’t listened to Scott’s previous podcast, you should. You will hear in his voice where his mind is in all of this. He is so positive and trusting. We have full confidence that he will beat this and come out stronger on the other side. With that being said, we learned yesterday that the rollercoaster is going to be a longer one than we had hoped and prayed. We’re praising the Lord that the cancer is not in his lungs or liver, but the MRI did show it in a few lymph nodes around the tumor. Because of this, he’s looking at radiation/chemo for 6 weeks, then 6 weeks off, then surgery, recovery for 8-12 weeks and then chemo again. According to the first oncologist we met with (we will be meeting with one more to have a couple of opinions/options), Scott is young and healthy and he gave us confidence that this can be taken care of.
As you know, rollercoasters do eventually end and you can get off and get your footing back. That is exactly what we plan to do. I hope you hear us when we say that we are hopeful and grateful in the midst of this unexpected, crazy ride. We have put our seatbelts/harnesses on and are bracing for each and every loopty loop that comes our way. We plan to face them with strength and hope for a better tomorrow. Thanks for your continued prayers.
